Ethical Trading Policy
At Gogna Schoolwear, we are committed to ethical trading and responsible manufacturing. Ethical trading means taking full responsibility for the welfare, rights, and working conditions of everyone involved in producing the garments we supply—ensuring fairness, dignity, and safety throughout our operations and supply chain.
In many global supply chains, workers operate under poor conditions due to weak labour laws or a lack of enforcement. At Gogna, we choose a different path—one rooted in transparency, respect, and ethical integrity.
Proudly Manufactured in the UK
Gogna Schoolwear is proud to be a UK manufacturer, producing all garments in-house at our bespoke facilities located in Leicester and Birmingham. We do not import stock or outsource production abroad.
By manufacturing locally, we:
- Support local employment
- Pay all staff a fair, living wage
- Maintain full control over working conditions
- Avoid the exploitative practices often found in overseas manufacturing
Our staff are employed under fair contracts and work in clean, safe environments. We are committed to creating a supportive workplace where every employee is respected, valued, and fairly compensated.
Our Commitment to Ethical Standards
We are proud supporters of the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code, a globally recognised standard of labour practice. We actively implement and uphold the following principles both within our own facilities and across our supply chain.
1. Freely Chosen Employment
We do not engage in any form of forced, bonded, or involuntary labour. Workers are not required to deposit money, surrender personal documents, or endure coercion of any kind. All staff are free to leave employment with reasonable notice.
2. Freedom of Association
Employees are free to join trade unions and engage in collective bargaining. We promote an open and respectful approach to worker representation and ensure no employee is penalised for participating in union activities.
3. Safe & Hygienic Working Conditions
Health and safety is a top priority. All staff have access to:
- Drinking water
- Clean toilets
- Hygienic food storage areas
We provide regular training, assign dedicated health and safety officers, and ensure that all legal standards are not only met, but exceeded.
4. No Child Labour
We strictly prohibit child labour across all areas of our operations. No individuals under 18 are employed for night work or in hazardous environments, in full compliance with International Labour Organization (ILO) standards.
5. Fair Wages
All employees receive clear written contracts outlining pay and conditions. We:
- Never deduct wages as punishment
- Always meet or exceed the UK National Minimum Wage or industry standard
- Pay enough to meet basic needs and allow for some discretionary income
Our Wider Supply Chain
While our core manufacturing is UK-based, we hold any suppliers or partner businesses we collaborate with to the same high ethical standards. We carefully vet and monitor all relationships to ensure alignment with the ETI Base Code and our internal policies.
Our Promise
We continually strive to uphold best practices in everything we do—protecting our people, our reputation, and the trust placed in us by families, schools, and communities across the UK.
If you have questions about our ethical trading policy or wish to learn more about our supply chain practices, please contact us.
